Shockwave Therapy in Leeds

Shockwave Therapy is a new, breakthrough in technology that allows us to treat longstanding chronic tendon problems, such as achilles tendinopathy and calcific shoulder tendonitis, in a fast and effective way.

The technology is based on lithotripsy, which has been used for many years to treat kidney stones. Shockwaves refers to mechanical pressure pulses that are focused on the injured area using a special applicator. These shockwaves will break down scar tissue and calcifications in the area, which in chronic cases the body is unable to repair itself. As the shockwave breaks down the tissue, the body starts generating new tissue leading to improved healing, better function and relief of pain.

Is shockwave therapy covered by private health insurance?

Yes. Most private health insurance companies cover the cost of treatment for shockwave therapy although it is advised you contact your insurer prior to booking a consultation to ensure you’re covered.

Of course, we prefer to use shockwave therapy as part of a global approach to recovery but if you are having treatment elsewhere that doesn’t offer shockwave we are very happy to see you here and we can easily communicate with any other professionals you are working with.
